| What's New This year we're excited to roll out a number of new features at the Langley Ukulele Workshop. Some, like the Follow-up Program, are ground-breaking. Others, like more teachers and smaller class sizes, are just plain common sense.
| Pre-workshop Prep Sheets |

These free, one-page Pre-workshop Prep Sheets are designed to give you a head-start on the material you'll be working on at the workshop. The idea is to provide a common foundation for everyone at each level. This helps teachers because they have a better idea what you know coming into the workshop and it helps you because you know exactly what to practise in the weeks leading up to the workshop!
Download your Pre-workshop Prep Sheet below (printer-friendly PDF format). Note: Sheets cover both C6 and D6 tuning.

Not a beginner but not ready for level 2? Try our Level One-and-a-Half (Level 1.5) class! This is something that attendees have asked for and we're happy to offer it for the first time this year. Click here for more information on levels.
We are pleased to offer scholarships to those who need them. A Langley Ukulele Workshop scholarship covers 50% of your registration fee. Ten scholarships will be awarded in 2011. To apply, please complete and send this online application. Applications must be received no later than June 1, 2011. You will be notified by June 15, 2011 if your application has been successful.
This year we're pleased to welcome back James Hill, J. Chalmers Doane, Peter Luongo and Paul Luongo to our teaching staff. We're also thrilled to add Ralph Shaw, Bonnie Smith, Kendra Simonetto and Larry Wyatt to the roster. Get to know this year's teaching staff.
Over the years the Langley Ukulele Workshop has gone through many changes in format. When it comes to workshop topics and content we've tried everything from soup to nuts. This year we're striking a compromise between "let the instructors teach whatever they're passionate about" and "dictate to the instructors what skills/repertoire to teach."
The result: one "rudiments" session at each level. The rudiments session covers the essentials of strumming, note reading, and music theory at your level. Think of it as an "eat your veggies" class. For all other classes over the course of workshop, your instructors will have free reign in designing content and deciding on topics.
| Separate C6- and D6-tuning Classes |
Top |
This is not entirely new as we started running separate classes for C6 tuning and D6 tuning in 2010. However, this year this feature will be offered at ALL levels, not just Level 1 and 2 as in the past. Separate classes means less confusion for student and teacher alike as well as smaller class sizes.
Please note: you are welcome to attend a class that is not "officially" offered in your tuning (e.g. if you'd like to spend more time with a specific instructor). However, please understand that the instructor is only expected to teach in the tuning advertised on the schedule.
| Lower Student-to-Teacher Ratio |
Top |
This year we have a larger teaching staff than ever before. We have 8 top-notch faculty for your learning/playing enjoyment (as opposed to the usual 4 or 5 faculty). However, we've kept the maximum number of attendees nearly the same as in past years. The result: you'll enjoy smaller class sizes and more personal attention from your instructors!
By popular demand, we've increased the amount of time between classes and created more opportunities for workshop attendees to "hang out and jam." This is an important part of the learning that takes place at a workshop and this year we've integrated more "jam time" in to the schedule. |
