Special sessions aren't necessarily ukulele-centric but they're fun and they give you a chance to work on new skills and/or repertoire. Special session topics are repeated on Saturday so that you can attend two of the four possible sessions over the weekend:
Percussion Accompaniment with Jamie Thomas
Wondering how to give your performance song a full, rich sound? Want some nice percussion accompaniment to enhance the sound of your class or ensemble? Don’t have a drum set or wouldn’t know what to do with one even if you did? We’ve got the class for you! Percussion accompaniment in one fun and easy lesson. In this class you will learn about basic drum set beats that can accompany almost any song and then learn to use small percussion instruments (cabasa, triangle, claves, maracas, etc) to duplicate those beats without a drum set.
Hawaii's Greatest Hits with Peter Luongo
Explore the music of Hawaii from beautiful traditional melodies to contemporary hits. We'll sing in English and in Hawaiian and you might just learn a new strum or two along the way. Pay homage to the ukulele's home and native land in this fun, hands-on repertoire class.
Ukulele Big Band! with James Hill
That's right, ukulele big band. It's time to take a full-blown hip-shakin' big-band swing arrangement and give it a ukulele makeover! Think Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Count Basie... with ukes! All sizes of ukulele are welcome (baritone ukes will have to use a capo). If you've always wanted to experience the thrill of playing in a swing orchestra, now's your chance. A-one, a-two, a-one, two, three, four...
Slap That Bass! with Chalmers Doane
Bass players are the life of any party. Seriously. Knowing how to play a lick or two on the bass fiddle will open your eyes and ears to new musical possibilities. GIve your ukulele a break and get expert, hands-on instruction in beginner bass techniques from Chalmers Doane.
