General
I play in C tuning (g, c, e, a). Can I still participate in the workshops?
Yes. Both C tuning (g, c, e, a) and D tuning (a, d, f#, b) will be accommodated in the classes. Handouts will be available in both tunings.
Top I'm a music teacher but I've never played ukulele. Is this workshop right for me?
Yes. You'll find that our beginner-level classes are just right for you. Every year we have dozens of music specialists learning to use the ukulele in their classes. You won't be alone!
Top I'm not a music specialist but I'd like to teach my students to play ukulele. Is this workshop right for me?
Yes. The ukulele has a very gentle learning curve. With the right instruction methods, success can be almost instant for both you and your students. The most important thing is that you're motivated to learn and open to absorbing new ideas.
Top I'm not a teacher at all, I just like to play. Is this workshop right for me?
Absolutely. All of our clinicians teach in a very hands-on, repertoire-based style. Throughout the day you'll be surrounded by like-minded people looking to share ideas, techniques, and songs. Depending on your interests you'll enjoy a Jazz Ukulele repertoire session or a Hawaiian Music repertoire session; and don't miss the fun day-end jam that involves all the clinicians and attendees!
Top I'm a vendor who sells music-related goods. Can I set up a booth at the workshop?
Please contact us and we'll send you details about renting a vendor booth at the workshop.

Top Classes / Levels I'm just starting out. Will I be left behind in the classes?
Our teachers are some of the most experienced in the world; they will do their best to accommodate all levels of ability in their classes. That said, please try to attend classes appropriate to your level and don't be afraid to move to a different class the one you chose isn't what you thought it was going to be.
Level 1: "How do I hold this thing?"
Level 2: "I know three chords and a double strum."
Level 3: "I want to go further and I'm up for a challenge." |
There are three skill levels at the Langley Ukulele Workshop: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 (no surprises there!). In Level 1 classes, no one gets left behind (i.e. if you're bored, you're in the wrong class). In Level 2 classes, the clinician will teach to the median skill level. In Level 3 classes, the teacher will teach to the top of the class (i.e. if you're not up for a challenge, you're in the wrong class).
Top I've been playing for a while and I'm pretty good. Will I be bored in the classes?
Not likely. There's enough depth on our teaching staff to keep even the most curious and advanced players happily challenged.
Top Travel / Accommodation Can you recommend a good hotel in the area?
The Hampton Inn & Suites is, once again, the official hotel of the Langley Ukulele Workshop. When you make your reservation, tell them you are in Langley for the workshop.
